Protecting Our Children

By Michael Canty

  • In his veto of House Bill 68, Governor DeWine said that “…this is about protecting human life.”   I agree, but the Governor has his protections all wrong – again.

How do you protect minor children from being destroyed for life with hormone drugs and surgery because some progressive teacher, or Teacher’s Union, or confused classmate convinced them that they are of a different sex than they are?  Minors can drink, vote, sign legal agreements, and a wide range of other activities because they are too easily swayed and have not yet developed the decision making skills needed to be an adult.  Yet the Governor would allow minors to claim a sex that they are not, or allow others to do so for them and alter them for life?  The Governor would allow CRT and DEIJ crazed teachers and unions to convince students they are what they are not, and be destroyed for life.

How do you protect girl athletes from losing self-esteem, scholarships, and all that they work for in grade school through college, and beyond, from males who claim they are females and compete unfairly against biological women?  Do elected officials who have daughters want this to happen to them?  This is a total abdication of Title IX, put in place to help develop girls in sports and give them the same opportunities given to boy athletes.

The Governor and his administration have lost their way on many social issues that affect Ohio children over the years – not fighting CRT and DEIJ in schools, not fighting “transgender females” competing women’s sports.  And More.  Now the Governor vetoes the protections of minor children and female athletes in HB 68.  The Ohio House and Senate have had the courage to override vetoes in the past when they could.  I encourage an override vote for HB 68 in both chambers this time as well.

HB 68 passed both Ohio Chambers with an override majority.  Please use it.  And every current elected official, and those looking forward to the next election, ought to be screaming about the injustice to Ohio children and female athletes about the veto, and about the need to override the veto of HB 68.
