Letter to the Editor – Jack Kananian.
The generals who testified this past week contradicted President Biden in several meaningful ways. In an interview the president stated his generals didn’t say it would be prudent to have a military presence in Afghanistan. This was proved false as both Generals Milley, and McKenzie both said it would be wise to maintain 2,500 US troops. The issue isn’t that he ignored the general’s advice. As president he has to ultimately make the decision.
The troubling part is Biden wants to own the political decision to end a 20 year war. But he doesn’t want to accept the political risk of ignoring the general’s suggestions to maintain a troop level in Afghanistan. The other thing was Biden called the evacuation in Afghanistan a “logistical success” General Milley had to contradict the president again, and say it was a “strategic failure” as anyone can see. Lastly, Biden said our allied partners were not upset with how the evacuation played out. Again, not true. Our partners were concerned the way the withdrawal was handled.
Lastly, as the president defends these poor decisions, our allies, and even worse, our enemies will take note.
