I think it is important that you have the opportunity to read the response Representative Patton submitted to the so called Ad Hoc Committee for Discipline – before the meeting in which you are being asked to censure the only Republican to win a contested election in Cuyahoga County in 2022.
Rep Patton’s response is a clear indictment on this entire sham “discipline” hearing. The reality is you are being asked to punish a loyal Republican for the “crime” of voting for a Republican for Speaker – to carry out the vendetta of certain individuals.
Make no mistake, tomorrow’s meeting has NOTHING to do with party discipline, because if it does, then Rep Merrin and others who voted with Democrats to make Larry Householder Speaker in 2019 would also be facing a reprimand. They are not. There were local elected Republican officials that supported Chris Ronayne over Lee Weingart and they are not facing disciplinary action. So ask yourself why Rep Patton faces the firing squad for supporting a conservative like Jason Stephens for Speaker.
I would suggest this is the height of hypocrisy and an absolute failure of party leadership. It is my hope you will see clear and put an end to this mockery and reject it outright.
